A Loop House Review of the
|
| I had been using an expensive but old DAW to record for many years. I had assumed that since it was an expensive piece of software that even though it was many years old it was still better than the newer, cheaper alternatives. However, it got to a point that I thought I should try a new DAW and I had noticed Sonar home studio 6 XL was only a little over a hundred dollars! I decided that was money I could risk. So I bought it.
The first thing that struck me with Sonar was the quality of the VST instruments that were included in the bundle. Dimesion le is an amazing Synth as well as rapture, and because I got the XL version it also came with a garriton pocket orchestra which is an amazing orchestra sampler. It also came with a nice sounding though limited in presets drum machine. I quickly concluded that these instruments were worth the price of the whole software! Now for the DAW itself. The UI was quite different than I was used to but it only took a couple of days to get very comfortable with it. The mixer is nice and also on cakewalks website they have some great video tutorials to get you going. I would say the weakest link with Sonar Home Studio 6 is the VST effects. The reverb is pretty crappy sounding and the rest are as well. I got boost 11 peak limiter because it was the XL version, but that was still pretty junkie if you compare it to Waves or Ik multimedia limiters, but for a hundred dollar package I should not complain. Overall I would have to say that Sonar home studio 6 xl was a great purchase! I highly recommend it! |
